LSU-Alabama November 6th; SEC West Likely on Line

Jason A Forthofer
Alabama and LSU will have a renewal of their rivalry on November 6th in Baton Rouge; the game is slated to start at 7PM, which would likely be a prime candidate for a slot on ESPN or ESPN2. Having the national champs in town will have the Tiger faithful juiced for an upset, and having Nick Saban, who took the NFL money of the Miami Dolphins to abandon LSU, come in coaching the Tide will make them even more juiced. One thing seems to remain constant every year Alabama-LSU Tickets will be a hard item to get come football season.

The Alabama club that won the national title in January isn't quite the same. Mount Cody has moved on; he looked a bit blubbery at the Indy combine, but the Tiger offensive line will be happy not to have to deal with him. The entire front three have graduated and All Americans Rolando McClain and Javier Arenas will be slated to be playing on Sundays this far. Thus, the Tide will have to do more than score in double digits to rack up another 14-0 effort in 2010.

However, Mark Ingram will be back with his Heisman Trophy in tow (at least figuratively, I doubt he'll bring it to Death Valley with him), so the LSU defense will have to deal with him as well as QB Greg McElroy and 6'4" wideout Julius Jones. Not too many national champ teams come back as loaded as Alabama without significant defections to the NFL. With the Bama crew a year older and wiser, they'll be tough for LSU to handle.

LSU will have some retooling, as leading rusher Charles Scott has graduated. However, QB Jordon Jefferson will another year of experience under his belt, and if he starts to develop a feel for the game to go with his NFL-ready body, the Tigers might snag the SEC West away from Alabama this year.

With the game coming in November with only two conference games left for LSU afterwards, a win against Alabama might put LSU into the national title hunt. North Carolina and West Virgina highlight the non-conference schedule and a trip to post-Tebow Florida looks to be the other major roadblock keeping LSU from going 8-0 into the Alabama game.
