AFGHANISTAN IS ALL THE RAGE FOR OBAMA - AN INSIDERS LOOK

Why the war effort continues - and why the Afghanistan election had to be fixed.

In 1983 - four years into the war between Russia and Afghanistan - I asked then Senator Bob Dole the following question during a private lunch session in the U.S. Senate dining - "Senator, why is Afghanistan so important that Russia is at war over it, and why are they trying to occupy it?" - He simply said - "have you looked at a map of what borders Afghanistan?" My silent answer was "no - not really" - so that very day I studied the map of Afghanistan and the CIA value sheets on the bordering neighbors, where it reads:

Afghanistan is landlocked, and situated in both the northern and eastern hemispheres. It's positioned in the Middle East, a recognized geographical region of southwestern Asia. It's bordered by the countries of China, Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

With prime border space like this, it is no wonder that when we booted Russia out of there in 1988 at the end of the Reagan administration, we wasted little time positioning ourselves to be the next kid in line for political dominance in Afghanistan. However, rather than fight the Afghans in a war, we would arrive on the scene as a friend and helper - a police enforcer if you will.

By the way, during the Russian war with the Afghans, over one million people were killed during the conflict and another five million fled their country - so one could say they needed us and our help.

With an inside track on this topic, I was asked over and over again last week by a variety of sources in the United States and abroad, why I was waiting until November 2nd to comment on the Afghanistan War Effort, and the political developments within the region.

As you now may have read in recent days, there have been many interesting stories of propaganda being scattered about by the Obama inner circle – although you may have mistaken this data for actual news (they do good work).

It all started with President Obama finally realizing that he was NOT going to be able to stop the military action in Afghanistan. It was finally impressed upon him that this strategic region of the world is far too critical to our national security. This posed quite a political pickle for the President and his merry men and women in the White House. After all, Obama ran on a platform where he would simply over ride all previous administrations efforts and simply end our efforts in Afghanistan and bring our soldiers home. Ooops, one major problem – The Joint Chiefs and the CIA have just now told Barack that he cannot do this. So what´s a President to do when faced with this little bit of news after he mortgaged his soul to get elected?

Well let me see……what can I do asks Obama?? Wait a minute, I can defer to my predecessor George W. Bush, and use some of his smoke and mirrors techniques - I mean hell it worked for him for eight years, and for every President in our nations rich history……I better have a cigarette first and play a game of pick up basketball.

So the timeline goes something like this:

LATE SEPTEMBER - THE BAD NEWS FOR OBAMA

President Obama is told by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the CIA that he must engage more troops in Afghanistan and that we (the U.S.) cannot leave or have a change in government. He is told that the United States simply cannot abandon this region of the world where it gives us the ability to dominate world order. Obama says, I can´t do that because I told everyone I wouldn´t – what will I tell Oprah and George Clooney?

The White House acts quickly (27 days) where they deploy a team of behind the scenes black op public relations experts and spin doctors (people like me) out onto the streets. The aim is to start to shift the focus as to why the President will have to break his campaign promises to the American People. It is decided that the President cannot talk about his now shifting polices, nor the enormous waste of taxpayer money, or the enormous loss of human life. Like a flashback from a bad movie, it is decided that Obama will dig up some gems from "W´s" vault. The storyline and focus are immediately diverted to newly found Taliban Drug Traffickers, Terrorists, Al Qaeda, and yes even 9/11 – ah yes the good old days of 9/11, Bin laden and weapons of mass destruction.

Now the fun begins – let's see if you remember any of these little AP news tidbits in the recent weeks after the President received the bad news about his policy. The following is a story that Hollywood movies would have a hard time writing - but it was written, produced and directed in less than 30 days - with the final scene focusing on a corrupt Afghan official who will be directed by the United States behind the scenes - ahhhh - the stuff dreams are made of.

FIRST - A MOTIVE TO PISS OFF AMERICAN VOTERS AND BOLSTER SUPPORT

On Monday October 26th it is reported that a U.S. military helicopter crashed while returning from the scene of a firefight with suspected Taliban drug traffickers in western Afghanistan, killing 10 Americans including three DEA agents.

Four more troops were killed when two helicopters collided over southern Afghanistan, making it the deadliest day for U.S. forces in this country in more than four years.

The Taliban claimed they shot down a U.S. helicopter in the western province of Badghis. The U.S. did not say where in western Afghanistan its helicopter went down, and no other aircraft were reported missing.

President Obama mourned the 14 Americans killed Monday and told a military audience he will not be hurried as he evaluates whether to alter his U.S. strategy in the war.

SECOND - LETS REOPEN THE WOUNDS OF 9/11 TO FURTHER BOLSTER SUPPORT

On Thursday October 29th - Out of nowhere, passports linked to 9/11 found along Afghan border.

Soldiers battling their way into a Taliban stronghold along the Afghan border have seized passports that may be linked to 9/11 suspects, as they confront an enemy skilled in operating in a mountainous terrain with endless ways to wage a guerrilla war.

The military on Thursday took foreign and local journalists for a first look inside the largely lawless territory since it launched a ground offensive here in mid-October (why just now?). The U.S.-backed operation is focused on a section of the tribal region where the Taliban are based and are believed to shelter al-Qaida.

It was impossible to determine whether the passports are genuine, and officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

(Like making fake ids in high school)

THIRD - WE NEED AFGHANISTAN TO REMAIN CORRUPT

Sunday November 1st - Afghan officials (at the urging of the U.S.) had scheduled a runoff election for Nov. 7 between President Hamid Karzai and challenger Abdullah Abdullah after U.N.-backed auditors threw out nearly a third of the incumbent's votes.

Abdullah complained that there were no assurances that the vote would be fairer than the first balloting. He called for the head of the government's Karzai-appointed election commission chairman, Azizullah Lodin, to be replaced within five days, saying he has "no credibility."

Another flawed election would cast doubt on the wisdom of sending in more U.S. troops said the Obama administration.

FOURTH - THE BAD GUY WINS, SO WE WIN

(WE KNOW A THING OR TWO ABOUT FIXING ELECTIONS – ASK AL GORE)

Tuesday November 2nd - U.S. President Barack Obama called Monday for a "new chapter" of improved governance in Afghanistan now that Karzai's re-election as president is complete.

"Although the process was messy, I'm pleased to say that the final outcome was determined in accordance with Afghan law, which I think is very important," Obama said.

Zabiullah Mujahid said: "The fraud election was in Washington, not in Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan did not vote to select their president. All the people understand that it was a fraud election.

With the stage now set, the U.S. is poised to remain in Afghanistan for many years to come and maybe forever.

I have said it before and I fear I will say it again; a new President never knows what he is truly up against until he sits behind the desk in the Oval Office and gets his first internal security briefing by those who really run the world.

Many of you may remember from my previous articles and interviews, I predicted that within 6 months of being in office - Obama would cave to the pressure of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the CIA, and that the war effort would continue.
