Capitol Beat
In November, the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party will gather in San Diego to elect one man and one woman to represent California on the Democratic National Committee, the governing body of the National Democratic Party. The two seats are open because of the resignation of DNC member Ed Espinoza, who now works for the DNC and the tragic passing of DNC member Inola Henry, a teacher activist.

On Tuesday, October 12, 2009, DNC candidates appeared at the Party´s Sacramento and Los Angeles County Democratic Parties´ monthly meetings. With just four weeks until polling begins, the candidates touted their records and resumes.

Also on Tuesday, two prominent Orange County Democrats endorsed Laurence Zakson for DNC: Wylie Aitkin, one of the most visible Democrats in Orange County and the Chair of the influential Democratic Foundation of Orange County; and Dan Jacobson, a prominent attorney and member of the Board of the Democratic Foundation of Orange County. Zakson, the General Counsel of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, is a member of the California Democratic Party Executive Board and the state Democratic Party´s Rules Committee. Zakson is also counsel to Orange County Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

Other candidates for the male seat on the DNC are Henry Vandermeir, Shawn Bagley and Mary Weiss. Candidates for the female seat include Becca Doten, an aide to LA City Councilmember Richard Alarcon, and Bobbie Anderson, an aide to Assemblymember Mike Davis.
