The benefits of the reward will help fund further recycling and recycling education programs. One $5,000 award will be presented to the city collecting the most total tonnage of recyclable aluminum cans and another for the city with the most innovative ideas for promoting recycling. Together, the City of Montgomery and MAX Credit Union are joining residents for this year´s local Cans for Cash TM challenge. During this event the main Cans for Cash TM recycling collection bin will be located in the parking lot of MAX Credit Union´s Eastdale branch at 400 Eastdale Circle in Montgomery. Residents can save their cans and drop them off Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
In conjunction with the Cans for Cash ™ City Recycling Challenge, the City of Montgomery will hold an aluminum can drive at the Cans for Cash collection site on Saturday, October 24th from 8:00 a.m. until noon. During this event they will distribute free Halloween goody bags containing information on litter prevention, beautification, and recycling events to every car that brings a sack full of aluminum cans to the drive. Our mascots Terry the Turtle and Froggles will make an appearance and the Talking Tree will be collecting the cans. Other volunteers will be on hand and dressed for this festive community event to "Keep Montgomery Boo-tiful."
This event will benefit the City of Montgomery by promote drop-off recycling, which is helpful since the city recently discontinued its curb side recycling program. It will help the City if they win the Cans for Cash ™ Challenge because the funds will be used towards recycling education programs and benefit further MCCC´s education programs. It is also a wonderful event Volunteer & Information Center´s Make A Difference Day. And, most of all it is a way for citizens and the community businesses to show they care about their environment.
A special thank you goes out to Mayor Strange, his staff, MAX Credit Union, and other participants and all the volunteers who are making a difference one can at a time!
